HELP SAVE SNOW LEOPARDS & RED PANDAS ON EARTH DAY

Welcome to a special Easter edition of the Rainforest Trust UK newsletter, and we hope you've been having an excellent bank holiday weekend. Today (Easter Monday) is Earth Day, a day when the world comes together to protect endangered species, such as the ring-tailed lemur and mother and baby gorilla shown above.

This Earth Day we are asking for your help to save one of the planet's most endangered big cats, the Snow Leopard (shown right). Nepal’s Tamur Valley is a critical habitat for the Snow Leopard and their prey, the Blue Sheep (well, it is pretty cold up there!), as well as the Red Panda. 12 large high-altitude lakes and over 200 smaller wetlands make this location a vital stopping ground for Snow Leopards as they traverse the region.

However, this area is currently completely unprotected - which is where Rainforest Trust comes in. We want to purchase three large parcels of land, which will block any roads or mining interests from entering the area. This purchase opens the door to declaring the entire 85,926-acre corridor as a Protected Area, the ultimate outcome of this project.

In celebration of Earth Day, every donation to this urgent project will be QUADRUPLED, which means you can protect 5 acres of this vital habitat for only £10. A donation £20 will protect 10 acres, and £50 will save 25 acres.

Please make a donation to help save Snow Leopards this Earth Day by clicking on the red button below. You can also donate via PayPal by clicking here.

SAVE THE RAINFORESTS - SAVE THE CLIMATE!

It's been a week when climate change has been much in the news in the UK, with ongoing protests in London and other parts of the country, and the showing of David Attenborough's documentary Climate Change: The Facts (now available on the BBC iPlayer). It's clear that climate change is an existential threat to life on our planet, yet one solution is rarely discussed in the media - saving the rainforests.

The world's rainforests are home to 50% of the world's species, many of which are threatened with extinction. They also produce 20% of the oxygen we breathe, help stabilise the planet's weather patterns, provide homes and income for millions of indigenous people and produce much of the world's fresh water. In short, we can't really live without them - yet 70,000 acres are still being destroyed every single day.

Tropical deforestation accounts for up to 15% of net global carbon emissions each year (the same as the whole of the global transportation sector), and a recent paper in Nature magazine explains how protecting and restoring tropical rainforests could contribute half the solution to climate change.

So if you're looking for a practical, affordable way to rebel against extinction and fight climate change,  please make a monthly donation to Rainforest Trust's Conservation Action Fund. For just £10 a month - or the price a cup of coffee a week - you can protect about 80 acres of rainforest a year, which would lock in about 1,800 metric tonnes of CO2 - the equivalent of the annual carbon emissions of nearly 400 cars. And as always, every donation is doubled.

Please click on the blue button below to set up your regular monthly donation to save rainforests and protect the climate. Your children and grandchildren will thank you for it!

If you're not able to set up a monthly donation today, please click on the orange button below to make a one-time gift to protect our climate. Your donation will be directed to our Indigenous Land Titling project in the Peruvian Amazon, which locks in 186 tonnes of CO2 for every acre saved. All donations doubled.

A NEW CHILDREN'S BOOK THAT SAVES RAINFORESTS!

A Tree For Me is the story of a gibbon called Sebastian, whose lives happily with his friends in the jungle. One day his tree is cut down, making him homeless. Will an encounter with a young girl provide Sebastian with a new home for him and his family?

This is a beautifully illustrated book with a strong environmental message that's ideal for young children - and every copy sold will save an acre of rainforest in the Peruvian Amazon!

The book goes on sale tomorrow, April 23rd, and you can order it direct from the publisher here, or on Amazon as a paperback or on Kindle. We would like to thank the author, Jessica Jaye, and SRL Publishing, who are donating 10% of each book sold to Rainforest Trust's project to save Indigenous land in the Peruvian Amazon.

Thank you very much for reading this newsletter, and for all you do to support rainforest conservation. Please forward this newsletter to friends and family members who are interested in saving endangered species and fighting climate change - the more supporters we have, the more rainforest we can save!
