The Art Show – one of the foremost art fairs in the nation – has been among New York City’s most eagerly anticipated early spring events for more than a quarter of a century. The Art Show showcases the finest contemporary, modern and postwar artists while directly supporting Henry Street’s poverty-fighting and cultural programs. Today, it is the nation’s longest-running fine art fair. The elegant Gala Preview, held this year on Tuesday, February 28th, offers a first chance to see the works on view and is a defining special event across the world of fine art and philanthropy.

SPRING FORWARD ARTS PARTY

Join us for an evening of exhibitions, performance and cocktails on January 27 to celebrate the opening of the Abrons Arts Center’s Spring Season!

Party guests will meet (and toast!) Craig Peterson, the new artistic director of the Abrons, and enjoy an exhibition of works by Abrons’ faculty artists, a pop up performance by the International Contemporary Ensemble (ICE), a food-as-art demo and a silk screening workshop.

The party – held from 6 to 8 p.m. – will precede the Abrons’ Spring opening performance of Jan Martens’ SWEAT BABY SWEAT in the Playhouse. Flemish/Dutch choreographer Martens’ conceptually rigorous and dynamically engaging work has been captivating audiences across Europe since 2009. In SWEAT BABY SWEAT, he focuses on the all-consuming love affair between a man and a woman, a couple who can’t or won’t let each other go.

The party is free. Tickets to SWEAT BABY SWEAT are available

CHECK US OUT IN TREASURES OF NEW YORK: SETTLEMENT HOUSES

Henry Street is featured in Treasures of New York: Settlement Houses, a new documentary premiering on WLIW21 and WNET-Thirteen. The one-hour film explores the unique history of this dynamic social service movement, which began in the late 19th. The settlement house movement created havens where residents of the City’s impoverished neighborhoods could seek assistance, education or a simple respite.
