We Bought A Firehouse! Henry Street got an early 125th birthday gift on October 25, 2017, when it took possession of the vacant firehouse at 269 Henry Street, adjacent to its historic headquarters. The spirited groundbreaking for the new building, to be named the Dale Jones Burch Neighborhood Center at Henry Street Settlement, was held on November 10. The space will be home to the Settlement’s Parent Center and Resource Center. Learn more » and read about our groundbreaking » Settlement House meets Ludlow House Henry Street met Ludlow Street at a chic and hip cocktail party to benefit the Settlement. An Evening at Ludlow House, held October 23rd at Soho House’s members-only space, Ludow House, celebrated the arts on the Lower East Side. Funds raised from the event will support Henry Street Settlement’s arts programs at Abrons Arts Center and throughout the city. When the LES Talks, Henry Street Listens Hundreds of Lower East Siders concerned about the future of the neighborhood participated in Henry Street’s Fourth Annual Town Hall held on October 22. “The most important thing for a community-based organization to do is listen,” David Garza, Executive Director of Henry Street, told the audience. “That’s why we’re here. Celebrating Survivors at “The Pathway to the Light Within” October marked Domestic Violence Awareness Month around the globe, and Henry Street honored the occasion with its annual conference celebrating survival, held at the Abrons Arts Center.This year’s festivities, entitled “The Pathway to the Light Within,” featured guest presentations, storytelling, poetry and, an exhibit in Abrons’ galleries featuring art by residents of the Domestic Violence Survivor’s Shelter, and a special Relaxation Space.
