Henry Street Settlement opens doors of opportunity for Lower East Side residents and other New Yorkers through social services, arts, and health care programs.

It's Our Birthday!

In 2018, the Settlement is celebrating its Quasquicentennial — 125 years of continuous service to our community. We are marking this milestone with some pretty fabulous (if we do say so ourselves) events. You can read all about them (and how to support them) on our website. While you're there, be sure to check out our brand new series Humans of Henry Street, which showcases 125 individuals whose interaction with the Settlement was transformational — in their lives or Henry Street’s.

Youth Opportunity Hubs OPEN!

The Youth Opportunity Hubs are open for service! Henry Street's new Youth Opportunity Hub—one of five in underserved neighborhoods—offers one-stop, comprehensive support for at-risk children, teens, and young adults to prevent them from becoming involved in the criminal justice system. Visit our website to watch a video from Hub Director Cody Lallier or read Executive Director David Garza's insightful interview with the CUNY Institute for State & Local Governance’s Criminal Justice Investment Initiative about some of the challenges that today’s youth face.

Attention Makers of All Ages!

Registration is now open for classes at Abrons Arts Center. This spring, classes for adults, youth and teens include Integral Yoga, Advanced Playwriting for PoC, Improv Comedy 101, Dancehall in Pop Culture, Creation Myths, Rock Band, Urban Youth Theater/Musical Performance Intensive and many more. Julie Atlas Muz and Mat Fraser, New Yorkers of the Year

The New York Times proclaimed the beloved Abrons mainstays Julie Atlas Muz and Mat Fraser “New Yorkers of the Year” for their super inclusive and super creative Jack & the Beanstalk show on stage at Abrons in December 2016. Read more about this inspiring duo.

The Holidays at Henry Street

November and December at Henry Street were jam-packed with holiday events, thanks to the wonderful groups of volunteers and friends who donated time and resources to the Settlement’s programs. We kicked off the season with a full Thanksgiving dinner at our Senior Center. Then in December there were two-dozen festive volunteer events bringing cheer all over the Lower East Side to program participants of all ages. Thank you to everyone who helped make the holidays merry and bright for all of Henry Street’s clients.
